Turns out elephants adore pumpkins. Be a good citizen and donate next years pumpkins to your local zoo, whether or not you have an elephant exhibit– Penguins also go nuts for pumpkins, oddly enough.
Hanako lived by herself in the Inokashira Park Zoo in Tokyo since 1954. The elephant was given to Japan by the Thai government in 1949. Hanaku died at the age of 69.
