Shiba Inu are small-medium sized dogs originally thought to have immigrated into Japan back in 7,000 B.C., but scientists have found remains of dogs around the size of these guys dating back to 14,500 B.C.. Originally used as hunting dogs, their smaller size let them scare prey out of their hiding spots easier, while being smart and reliable to boot. The meaning of their name is “Brushwood dog”, but the actual origins of their name is a mystery! Sadly, back in WWII, these little guys almost went extinct due to bombing raids, diseases, and more, but post-war breeding programs brought their numbers back up! And we’re glad they did, as shiba inu dogs have become a mainstay of internet culture. So sit back and relax and waste some time with these funny shiba inu memes!
